Nikhat Banu's journey in the recently concluded UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Championships2024 (Karnataka), showcased her tenacity and skill, particularly evident in her stunning quarterfinal victory over second seed Poymantee Baishya, where she triumphed with a closely contested 3-2 score. This upset marked her as a formidable contender and generated considerable excitement among fans and competitors alike. However, in the subsequent semi-final match against Swastika, Nikhat faced a significant challenge. Despite her previous success, she was outmatched by Swastika’s aggressive and dynamic style of play. The match ended with a commanding 4-0 victory for Swastika, who executed her shots with precision, utilizing powerful strokes and sharp angles that kept Nikhat on the defensive throughout the encounter. While Nikhat may not have advanced to the finals, her performance in the tournament highlighted her potential and determination on the court. Her ability to rise to the occasion against higherranked opponents is a testament to her skill and resilience as an athlete. As she continues to develop her game, there is little doubt that Nikhat Banu will remain a player to watch in future competitions, building on her experiences and striving for further success.
Sri Saanvi Kamarapu of SPARS TT Academy won a Bronze Medal at the UTT National Ranking Table Tennis Tournament in Panchkula, showcasing her consistency and determination. She won her quarter-final match against Ishita Colaso of Goa with scores of 11-9, 11-10, and 11-8, earning her spot in the semi-finals. PARIS 2024 OLYMPICS TABLE TENNIS: SREEJA AKULA, MANIKA BATRA GET HIGHEST SEEDING AMONG INDIANS
Sreeja Akula (16th) and Manika Batra (18th) are the highest-seeded Indian players at the Paris 2024 Olympics table tennis tournament which begins on July 27. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) revealed the seedings on Tuesday. A total of 67 players are seeded in each of the men’s and women’s singles competitions while 16 teams each are seeded for both team events. Last month, Sreeja Akula reached a career-best No. 24 in the world table tennis rankings, displacing Manika Batra as India’s top women’s singles player. The 25-year-old Sreeja, a two-time national champion, became the first Indian table tennis player to win a WTT Contender singles title at Lagos in June. Partnering Archana Kamath, she also bagged the doubles title. World No. 28 Manika Batra, meanwhile, is seeded only two places below her compatriot at the Paris 2024 Olympics. A former Commonwealth Games champion, Manika made the Saudi Smash women’s singles quarter-final in May, becoming the first Indian singles table tennis player to reach the last eight of a WTT Grand Smash event. Manika will be making her third straight appearance in the Olympics. Sharath Kamal is set to make his fifth Olympic appearance. The two-time Commonwealth Games men’s singles champion is seeded 24th at the Paris 2024 Olympics. At Tokyo 2020, the 41-year-old veteran was ousted in the third round, his best finish at the Olympic Games to date. National champion Harmeet Desai, ranked 86th in the world in men’s singles, is seeded 49th. He will make his Olympic debut. Meanwhile, India will debut in the team table tennis events at the upcoming Olympics where the four singles players will be joined by Manav Thakkar (men’s team) and Archana Kamath (women’s team). Both the men’s and women’s team events were introduced to the Olympic programme at Beijing 2008. Seeded 14th at Paris 2024, the Indian men’s table tennis team is among the top five Asian teams. Manika Batra and Co. are seeded 11th in the women’s team event. All six Indian table tennis players made the cut for Paris 2024 via their world rankings. There is no Indian representation in the mixed doubles tournament. Table tennis at the Paris 2024 Olympics will be conducted between July 27 and August 10. All five competitions -- men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, men’s team and women’s team -- will be played at the South Paris Arena.

Sub Junior Boys team winning Silver at the 11Sports 80th Cadet and Sub-Junior National Table Tennis Championships at the Basketball Hall of Sector 42 Sports Complex in Chandigarh.
The team deserved all the appreciation for knocking the stuffing out of Delhi, the real title contender, 3-2 in the semifinals earlier. What endeared Telangana was the way they fought the semifinals, especially the cool Kesavan, who literally carried the team into the final against an experienced line-up of Delhi, comprising Payas Jain and Aadarsh Om Chetri, the top-ranked individuals. Kesavan played his role to perfection, first leveling the score after Payas had put Delhi ahead. But Delhi went 2-1 up after the doubles win putting Telangana under pressure once again. But Karthik showed no sign of nerves as he beat Aadarsh to give a new lease of life which Kesavan utilized well against Payas. The Telangana boy was 0-1 in the decider but stroked his way to dismantle the Delhi boy to give his team a rare opportunity in the final. But, unfortunately, the Tamil Nadu proved too strong for them in the title-round.
